Classroom Policies
In our classroom, Students will:
1) Be Respectful
2) Be Responsible
3) Be Kinder than Necessary
Classroom Library
Students should always have one independent reading book from the Classroom Library that they are reading. Students are more than welcome to bring books from home as their independent reading book. This year we are using the BookSource program to keep track of classroom library books. BookSource allows students to have their own login in which they can log on and see which books are available in the library. They also will be required to check the books out in their names and then check them back in once they have completed reading them. Students may have two books checked out at a time.

Book source login: msreece password: 5thgrade
mrsbendes password: 5thgrade
Each student can also log-in to his/her individual account to check out, return, and peruse texts. You will search for your username (first name, then first initial of last name, i.e., KirstinR.), and your password is 5thgrade.
Homework Expectations
Students should be spending an average of 50 minutes on homework each night. Students will have the following assignments each evening:
There will occasionally be other big projects or assignments which will be assigned in advance.
If homework is not turned in the day it is due, students have the opportunity to stay in at recess to complete it, or they can turn it in the following day. If the assignment is not turned in on time, there will be a deduction of 10% for each day late.
Gradebook
We update our gradebook very regularly with all the assignments for the week updated by the weekend.
Generally-tests, quizzes, and projects are worth more than homework and in-class assignments. Please be aware that these assignments take additional time to grade and may not be updated as quickly as regular homework assignments.
Planners
Students will use our Homework Calendar to view their nightly homework. We will not be using planners this year.
Each day, students should bring home (and back to school):
Homework Calendar
Our Homework Calendar will be updated daily to reflect each evening's assignments and any long term assignments that may take place. Please help your student get into a routine of checking the calendar together to ensure that all homework gets completed and returned to school!
Tests
Tests, quizzes, and other performance assessments will be given to assess student understanding after a unit of study. Tests with a score of less than 80% will require a parent signature and test corrections to be made. Tests will be kept in student math folders until the end of the year, when they will be sent home.
Grades
Grades will be updated daily in Powerschool. Heritage uses the following grading scale:
A+ 101
A 94-100
A- 90-93
B+ 87-89
B 84-86
B- 80-83
C+ 77-79
C 74-76
C- 70-73
D+ 67-69
D 64-66
D- 60-63
E 0-59
We weight homework and daily assignments slightly less than tests, projects, and quizzes.
Snacks
Students may bring a healthy snack each day to eat during a work time. Students are allowed one snack per day! Permitted snacks include Fruits and Vegetables, cheese sticks, crackers, and healthy foods.
Birthdays
Heritage School has a no birthday treat policy, but we will celebrate birthdays in other fun ways! Look at the birthday board in the classroom for upcoming special days. Summer birthdays will be celebrated on half-birthdays during the year.
