This week in reading we finished up reflecting on our year as readers. Everyone made amazing growth this year and should be so proud of themselves!
Science:
We wrapped up our final science unit this week as students presented their Environmental Issues models to the class. All the models were very impressive and the students did a great job of presenting them!
Compass Connections:
- Positive Communicator - Earth Systems Model presentations
5th Grade Celebration:
Thank you to all the parents who helped make this event happen! Despite the questionable weather, students enjoyed a great day of inflatables, yard games, a DJ, a photo booth, and many other exciting activities! Everyone enjoyed this opportunity to have fun together on our last full day of 5th grade.

Math Placement:
The placement letters will be arriving at your home via mail this week. As a reminder, these placements are based on NWEA scores, the math placement test taken in March, and a small amount of teacher in put. If you have questions or concerns, please contact SMS.
Summer Bridge Program:
There is still time to sign up for the Summer Bridge Program at SMS. This program is specifically designed for students moving from 5th grade at Heritage to 6th grade at SMS. Students learn to take proper notes, get familiar with the school, and meet some of the staff at the middle school. This is an ideal program for anyone who is feeling anxious about the transition to the middle school. You can still sign up here!
WEB Orientation at SMS:
This August event is intended for all incoming sixth graders. This day is organized and run by the 8th grade WEB leaders, who are the same students that answered questions in our classroom and toured us through SMS. This day allows students to get more familiar with the building, meet SMS staff, and get to know some of their future classmates. This is also the day that 6th graders get their schedule/teacher for the year. All students are encouraged to attend. Look for more information on this event from SMS over the summer.
Important Upcoming Dates:
August 20 @ 8am - WEB Event at SMS (includes schedule pickup)
August 26 - First Day of School
